SATURDAY, the governments of the state of Oklahoma and the state of Israel will sign an agreement to increase cultural awareness and promote educational, academic, economic and other links in the years ahead.
The accord will be signed and celebrated at a concert of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic at 8:15 p.m. this Saturday at the Civic Center Music Hall. The Philharmonic’s concert is entitled “Heaven and Earth” – and will include “Schelomo: Hebrew Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra” by Ernest Block, a Jewish composer.
Saturday’s festivities are sponsored by Oklahoma Israel Exchange (OKIE), founded last year by the Jewish Federations of Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Edie Roodman, executive director of the Oklahoma City federation, said this week, “The concert and celebration are an excellent way to commemorate this great occasion. It is particularly fitting that this memorandum of understanding … be signed during this year that marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel.”
Ticket information is available from the Oklahoma City Philharmonic (405-842-5387) or the Jewish Federation of Oklahoma City (405-848-3132).
